30. Interiors.
I ran into a friend while loading in for DJ gig this past Friday who I had not seen in quite some time. In my mind I was trying to calculate the last time I had run into this person as we were talking. She asked where I had been as she had not seen me out in awhile. I stumbled over my words as I couldn’t really produce any sort of real explanation as to what I had done over the past year.
Obviously, I haven’t been sitting in my room playing video games (this reference makes very little sense as I haven’t actively gamed since the 2nd Tony Hawk game came out). The past year has been filled with a wonderful relationship, a crappy job, a newly acquired incredible job, hundreds of records, lots of paint, a decent amount of cooking and quite a few out of town adventures. And bourbon. Lots of bourbon. Friday was one of those reminders that the ye ole real world isn’t actually in a booth inside a bar and a lot can happen while not be readily visible. I feel I have accomplished more in the past 365 days than I can recall, yet to most, I have been missing in action.
I DID turn 30 last Sunday which was everything I imagined it to be! What did I imagine? Well, I figured I would wake up and pee first thing, which did in fact happen. I also assumed I would probably eat, take a nap and enjoy the company of others. Check, Check and Check. I was filled with a burst of joy when I decided that 30 is very acceptable age to stay in on Fridays and watch crappy movies with my lady. I am pretty much where I wanted to be at this point in my life, so diving into “the thirties” wasn’t really a rough transition. Thus far it is more refreshing than anything. “I don’t give a crap about what you jerks think of me” has taken on a whole new meaning. Really, I don’t. I mean, I will still follow society’s norms and what not, but I just can’t imagine that my transition into khaki pants and oxford shorts is ever going to come. It feels pretty nice.
One of the things I wanted to accomplish this year was an art installation of some kind. I have been working on a show which will be titled Interiors. I have been making pretty decent progress for someone who works full time and does fairly regular DJ nights. I am still trying to determine where this install will take place as gallery calendars are typically filled months to years in advance. I have a few photos below of some of my most recent pieces.

I have also been considering pressing up t shirts again. I have done a few events in the past 6 months that were fairly well received. That always sparks the idea of continuing to create new designs and get them produced. I am toying around with the notion of creating mock ups and trying to create a pre-order of sorts before I spend $600 on a pile of t shirts that will sit in storage.
Anyways. There it is. See you in a year.
